[TUTORIAL] Using GDrive For Donations

Post by Sakura Admin »

As mentioned in the Donation Information thread, we are asking players to submit their deck donations using a specific method to lessen the time (and computer space) required when it comes to checking them to ensure they meet minimum requirements. This is called the "GDrive method" with 'GDrive' being short for Google Drive!

To begin, make sure you have a Google/Gmail account. It's easy and straightforward to sign up but if you need help, let us know! When you're logged in, open your "My Drive" and you will see the main folder where you can upload files and make files directly in it. This is where you will upload your donations to (or in their own folder, it's up to you how you organize your drive)!

GUIDE ✨
  1. Start with your donation! Collect the images for it and put them into a folder, then upload that folder to your drive. You can drag it from your computer's folder to the window with your drive (or the specific folder you want to upload all donations to) open, or go to where you want to upload all donations to then click New > Folder Upload (see below) then find where you saved your donation folder and select that!

  2. You should now have a folder in your drive titled as your donation, whatever it may be. If it's not already formatted as the donation guidelines ask (which is "Series Name - Deck Name") then please edit it here! Since my folder was originally titled just "aoyagi toya" then I would need to rename it to "Project Sekai - Toya Aoyagi" instead! There's two ways to do this:

    1) Right click the folder (or the 3 dots on the right side of the folder name) and choose "Rename"

    2) Open the folder directly > click on its name > choose "Rename" from there

  3. Now that your donation is uploaded and the name is formatted correctly, double check all your images are there. If everything looks good, you need to grab the share link next which you can do by clicking on the folder again (either way mentioned above works!) and this time, select "Get Link" (see below).

4. You will then see a pop up with various sharing options! Where it says "General Access", it will probably be set to "Restricted" by default. Click that and change it to "Anyone with the link" instead! This lets anyone view the donation without needing to add specific users to the access list (which is what the section above this option is for). Then, click the button that says "Copy link" (see below)!

  5. This share link is what you would provide in the donation form when it asks for a download! Now, when we click it, we can see all the images without needing to download the folder then unzipping it and review your donation easier.
    • Also, if you end up needing to remove or add images after staff asks you to, it's easier to do that through your drive folder as well because you don't need to re-upload and link anything; you just need to let us know when you have and we can use the original share link to view the changes made!

Additionally, with this method, deck makers can then work from the drive folder directly and choose which images they want to download to use in the deck OR go the traditional route and download the donation as is! To do that, they would just need to click on the folder name > select "Download" and it will be exported as a zip, which they can then unzip on their own computer like usual.
