Box Sets

Another of our activities here is something what we call Box Sets – but you may be familiar with this type of activity already, as there have been many variations of it in other TCGs! Sakura's version involves collecting a pre-determined list of decks (chosen by you!) that fit under one of our Box Set Types, which you can find out more about further below.

By selecting decks in advance that meet the requirements we give you and sticking only to those in order to complete your collection, we hope it provides a little challenge as well as a goal to plan for and work towards! To help with that, you will receive a custom-made graphic that is called a Box Set Sheet which you can use to track your progress. You then just collect and master the decks on your list like normal and when you're done, you will receive a reward for completing everything!

Currently, players start off with a base limit of 2 box sets – but this limit can be increased with one of two coupons: an additionalboxset coupon or an additionalboxsetfreebie coupon (please see the FAQ for more details on how to use these coupons). Regardless of which one(s) are used, players can only have a max. total of 5 Box Sets at any given time! When you've reached your limit, you can only apply for a new one once you finish or drop a current box set (and if the box set was applied for with an additionalboxset coupon then you will need another one of those too).

There are no other restrictions or limits to box sets otherwise, however! You can mix and match Box Set Types and have as many box sets of a single type as you like. Box Sets are also free and don't cost any currency to start; you just need to have one of your free box set slots open or an appropriate coupon (on top of not already having 5 box sets ongoing at the time)!

BOX SET TYPES

To start, you must first decide on what type you want your Box Set to be! Currently, we have 7 available box set types and they are all outlined in the table below, along with more details about each. Generally, we allow any deck type to be used in a Box Set, however there ARE some exceptions so please make note of that when choosing the Box Set Type!

TYPEDESCRIPTIONRESTRICTIONSEXAMPLE
ArtistThis box set highlights a specific artist or studio of your choosing, such as: Arina Tanemura who has both her own manga series and has drawn character designs for games and other projects; Studio Ghibli and all their original movies; and any one else that would fit into this category! Can only include decks of characters & series drawn or created by the chosen artist, studio, etc. but any deck type is allowed.

The decks do not have to be entirely made of images by the chosen artist either as long as they are the original designer/creator of the series/character design in general.
Using Arina Tanemura as an example, you could include a mix of characters from her own manga series as well as characters from IDOLiSH7 since she was the character designer for the series and regularly draws for it still! You could also use any puzzle decks featuring art drawn by her, whether it's her own series or not.
CharacteristicsThis box set highlights a specific characteristic of your choosing, such as: characters who are idols, characters who have animal features, characters who are main protagonists, etc; even something like Pokemon of a certain type would work! Can only include character decks! No other deck type is allowed.Using characters who are idols as an example, you could include a mix of characters from different idol series, whether they be from an anime, manga, game or multi-media projects as long as their occupation (or one of them, if they have multiple) is being an idol.
ColourThis box set highlights a specific colour of your choosing, however the only available colours to choose from are limited to the ones we use to classify our decks! That means the deck info. must list your chosen colour as its deck colour to count. Any deck type is allowed for this theme!

Colours are limited to: red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, grey, and black! White decks (or as close to white as possible) would be classified as grey decks.
Using red as an example, you could include both makinishkino and hiiroamagi as they're labelled as red decks but you couldn't use ayamaruyama since that deck's colour is listed as pink.
Player FavouritesThis box set highlights a player's favourites whether it be characters, series, whatever! This is basically a free-for-all so as long as it's something you like then you can use their deck for this box set. Any deck type is allowed for this theme!

If using specials or puzzles, they must feature characters you like or for a more general approach, can just be a series you like overall.
N/A – the theme is pretty straightforward and there's not really any hard rules or restrictions!
SeiyuuThis box set highlights a specific seiyuu/voice actor of your choosing, such as: Miyano Mamoru, Takahashi Rie, and more! Since we focus on Japanese media, the voice actors you can choose from must also be Japanese or at least voiced someone in the original Japanese dub of a series. Can only include decks of characters voiced by the chosen seiyuu, so only character decks are allowed.Using TBA as an example, you could include any deck of a character they've voiced, such as: TBA or TBA.
SeriesThis box set highlights a specific singular series of your choosing so all decks included must be from that same series! For larger franchises with multiple series within it and other similar scenarios, please see the Box Sets FAQ for more info. Any deck type is allowed for this theme!

Essentially, any deck on a specific series' set page can be used in a box set for that series. If there's a character who appears in multiple series, we may allow them to be used in different series box sets on a case-by-case basis but please ask first!
Using Aikatsu! as an example, you could include a mix of any decks on the Aikatsu! set page but you couldn't use decks from Aikatsu Stars! because it's basically a separate series with an entirely new cast of characters, despite it being set in the same universe/world.
ThemedThis box set highlights a specific theme of your choosing that wouldn't be considered a characteristic, such as: holidays like Christmas or Halloween; genres like shoujo or shounen series; and anything else that could fit in this category! Any deck type is allowed for this theme!Using Christmas as an example, you could include a mix of puzzle decks featuring Christmas (or related) images or a special deck with a Christmas (or related) theme. Characters related to Christmas like Eve Santaclaus from The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls would also be accepted!

BOX SET SHEET

Once you have the type decided, it's now time to move on to choosing your decks. Each Box Set contains 6 decks and while you get to pick these on your own, they must match the same Box Set Type you just chose! In addition to matching the Box Set Type, the decks you choose must also meet the following requirements:

  • Of the 6 decks in your Box Set, only 2 can be decks you've already mastered OR collected 11+ cards from.

  • Otherwise, all decks must have 10 or less cards at the time of applying for the Box Set.
If you receive cards from a Box Set Deck that would push you over 10 but it is after you have already applied AND your form has not been approved yet, please edit it to note how many cards you received for our reference! You can still use them, we just need to be informed in order to approve everything.
After deciding on the 6 decks you will use, you can now apply for your Box Set! To do so, head over to the Box Sets forum and look for the Box Sets Information thread. This is where you will find the forms you need to fill out as well as information on how to start your own thread to handle all Box Set-related things.

Once your form is processed and approved, staff will drop off your form for us so we can make the Box Set Sheet!

This will look like the example on the right but will contain details relevant to your Box Set, and as mentioned before, will feature the image (and if provided, the colour) you chose for it instead.

COMPLETING BOX SETS

You can start fully collecting the decks in your collection now! Master them regularly like you would for any other deck and feel free to check it off as completed on the Box Set Sheet if you'd like as well. Once you've mastered all 6 decks, you have completed your Box Set and can now turn it in for rewards!

You would do this in the same thread you applied for the Box Set originally, this time using the "Completed Box Set" form instead. Once staff check it over and everything looks good, they will once again drop off the form for us so we can make the master badge! You also have the option of providing the image for the master badge at the same time you apply for the Box Set itself if you prefer, so we can have it made & uploaded to the site already in advance. (In this scenario however, you will not be able to change your mind and request a different image when you do complete the Box Set!)

It will look like the example on the left and like the Box Set Sheet, will be made with another image of your choice – this can be the same one used for the Box Set Sheet or a new one entirely.

Please be aware that the colour of the master badge will be the same as the Box Set Sheet though so choose the image accordingly!

In addition to the badge, you will also receive 12 random cards and 50 sakura petals per box set. For every 5 completed box sets, you will receive 2 sakura flowers as well!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We are aware of how confusing Box Sets can—and have—been (as any previous Sakura player would probably tell you!) so there is now a revised and more detailed FAQ on the forums but we also answered a few of the most common questions below too!

  • Re-masteries of decks can be used in Box Sets! If you already used a deck in a previous Box Set or want to use one you already have 11+ cards from but including it would exceed the limit in place, you can collect and master it again. Just make note of that when applying!

  • Including the same deck multiple times in a Box Set is allowed! Just like how re-mastering decks is fine, so is this. In the past, members have done a "Player's Favourites" Box Set and all 6 decks were a single character because of how much they love them which is very much okay here!

  • Images, Box Set Types, and decks are not first come, first served. Meaning, two players could have the same theme, same image, same decks or any combination!
